My Experience Being a Vegan

I was born into a vegetarian family, so I have been a vegetarian my entire life. However, in August of 2019, I came across videos of how cows are being treated in the food industry, and what goes on when it comes to milk production. This caught my attention, and I started to dive more into not only the treatment of animals but also the benefits of veganism.

After some research, I decided to take my vegetarian diet to the next level and started to eat vegan to see how it could benefit my health.

I started to eliminate all of my favorite foods that I had still been consuming in my vegetarian diet like milk, yogurt, cheese, butter, ice cream, cake, and chocolate. Out of everything, yogurt was by far the hardest to remove as it was such as staple in my diet.

While it was definitely difficult in the beginning, and trust me, I had moments where I just wanted a bite of something non-vegan, I would always remind myself of why I was doing this. I would go back and think about the video I saw about the treatment of cows, and the reasons why going vegan could truly benefit my health.

Every time, this would help me push past any craving that popped up!

2 Weeks To 3 Months Into My Vegan Journey

Fast forward to two weeks into my vegan diet, and I felt lighter and had more energy. I was feeling great!

Three months in, I went to get my routine check-up, and I was shocked to see that my thyroid function had normalized! I also didn’t have any issues with a B-12 deficiency, which is often a big concern for vegan eaters.

My doctor told me that a vegan diet is actually really beneficial for people who suffer from things like thyroid health issues, arthritis, diabetes, and more. I was so excited!

Studies have found that plant-based diets can help cut your risk of diabetes in half! Research has also pointed to the benefits of plant-based eating in preventing heart disease, and obesity as well.

This doctor’s visit is what totally convinced me to stay vegan, and I even managed to convince my husband to jump on board too. It became so much easier for me to just cook once and not have two different dishes for both of us.

The Power of Plant-Based

The important part of all of this is that plant-based foods is key for better health, but the types of foods we eat is also important. While avoiding meat and animal products is, of course, the foundation of a vegan diet, we also have to avoid processed foods like white rice, flour, and refined oils. Our bodies aren’t made to breakdown these foods, and they can lead to some pretty serious inflammatory responses in the body.

The body will literally look at these inflammatory foods as foreign and start fighting it. This can cause stress on the body, and stress is our response to external demand. The foreign food is now considered external demand, and we use up our energy fighting off this perceived foreign threat, that we are left feeling tired and lousy after eating. At times, it can even lead to depression, as food plays a big part in our emotional health.

It is important to eat plant-based and natural foods that will help nourish our body and not cause added stressed or inflammation.

One of my fav quotes from the Stavic Movement is that “you are what you ate,”which is different than what we are used to hearing… you are what eat.

Your present is based on the choices you made in the past.

The same way in which the law of attraction works..

The choices of your present are going to impact your future.

It’s not going to be instantaneous.. but constant repetition and discipline will give success!!

It is important to eat lots of green food, high protein (doesn’t have to be from meat.. we have lots of good stuff!)

Some great plant-based nourishing options that are rich in all the goodness like plant-based protein, fiber, healthy fats, antioxidants include bok choy, Swiss chard, kale, spinach, cauliflower, broccoli, berries, avocados, nuts, and seeds.

Hang on! To help you get started, I am sharing my favorite smoothie that I love to enjoy for breakfast to kick start my day.

I like to call this my High vibe smoothie!!
